What do you mean by left infrahilar pneumonia versus PTB
Thanks for writing to HCM
Pneumonia can be due to bacteria or virus and less commonly due to fungus or parasites whereas PTB is due to mycobacterium tuberculosis.
Bacterial pneumonia generally resolves within 5-7 days with antibiotics whereas viral and fungal causes need antiviral and antifungal treatment respectively.
PTB need anti T.B treatment and it needs treatment for 6-9 months.
My sis had ptb 6years ago, finished 6mnths treatment.now suffering backache &dry cough & xray result bilateral ptb,do need to take same meds for 6mnths again?
Hi Ellaomang ! If ptb means bilateral pulmonary tuberculosis, then I would suggest you to get your sister reviewed again by the treating physician. This might be a resistant tuberculosis, and might be affecting the spine as well. In that case, may be after more investigations, your physician will change the drugs with addition of some new and for a prolonged period. Take care.
